.... the Orongorongos, Camp Wainui with its hills covered in a mix of mature and regenerating native forest, offers a unique environment for participants in the Tough Guy & Gal challenges.

The secondary schools race saw school pupils from throughout the greater Wellington region working hard to obtain their NCEA credits on a physically challenging course, made more testing by the wet conditions underfoot. 

Conditions overnight Friday, and the presistent rain on Saturday meant that course conditions required the 12k and 6k events to be combined in the interests of competitor safety. The course was also altered to avoid the dangers inherent in these conditions on Everest.
