Kaikoura stop over

Before the cold front.

We were fortunate that the forecast storms had not arrived in Cook Strait for our crossing (the ferries were cancelled the next day). We had no rain and little wind on our trip down to Kaikoura, although there was a spectacular contrast between the black clouds on the Southern horizon, and the turquoise sea.

Overnight the temperature dropped, and we had heavy rain, very strong winds, and hail on our journey through to Rakaia.

A big thank you to the engineering and construction teams for their amazing work on rebuilding SH1 around Kaikoura post earthquake.
