2022 Karapoti Classic

Established in 1986 ...

... the Gazley Skoda Karapoti Classic is the longest running mountain bike race in the Southern Hemisphere.

With Covid postponements pushing the event out two months later than normal many expected a somewhat "heavy" course, yet the later date saw the 2022 Karapoti run under ideal conditions and on a dry track.

Based in Upper Hutt’s rugged Akatarawa Ranges near Wellington, the course is an old-school adventure ride featuring huge hills and river crossings amid remote, rugged and historic forest trails providing a solid test of a rider's fitness, skill, and endurance.

Australian Kyle Ward, the defending men’s champion winning, won his fourth title in 2hrs 15min 58secs.

Completing the family's grip on the 2022 Karapoti, Ward's wife, Wellington-born Samara Sheppard, claimed her third title in 2hrs 44min 19secs.
