2018 Martinborough Charity Fun Ride

A perfect day for a ride.

The moon was reflecting in the clear sunny sky as entrants arrived at the Martinborough Rugby Clubrooms for race pack pick-up for this year's fun ride.

A light wind accompanied the rider's as they headed through rolling back-country roads towards Gladstone before heading back toward Martinborough via Ponatahi Road.

The annual event, long organised by Jan and Geoff Lankow as a fundraiser for charity, has in recent year's been organised by the Rotary Club of South Wairarapa still as a fundraiser for charity. This year's event's charity was the Wairarapa Whanau Trust, and in particular helping build its youth facility in Featherston.

Matthew Webb-Smith was first home in the 115km ride in 2:54:45, nearly 10 minutes faster than the 2016, and 2017 fastest times. Deborah Lynch repeated her 2017 success as fastest woman, beating her 2017 time by 6 minutes.
