2018 Te Houtaewa Challenge
Following in the footsteps of Te Houtaewa
Te Houtaewa was a famous Muriwhenua athlete and prankster who ran the length of Te Oneroa-a-Tōhē (Ninety Mile Beach) to steal some baskets of kumara from a neighbouring tribe's stores. The runners who took on the 62km ultra marathon beach run will surely understand what a feat this was, even carrying a token single kumara with them!
